Indole-3-carbinol inhibits the occurrence and development of
various tumors and has been proven to inhibit carcinogenesis in animals.
As a pharmaceutical intermediate, it is used to synthesize
anti-cancer food additives.
It combats estrogen-responsive cancers such as breast cancer and
cervical cancer by inhibiting estrogen receptor signaling and altering estrogen
metabolism mediated by cytochrome P450, thereby acting as an estrogen
antagonist.
