Bakuchiol, also known as psoralen, effectively inhibits the activity of cyclooxygenase, reducing the release of inflammatory mediators and demonstrating a certain anti-inflammatory effect. It can also inhibit bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Propionibacterium acnes, making it particularly beneficial for individuals prone to closed comedones and acne.
Anti-Aging Properties:
A study published in the British Journal of Dermatology (BJD) suggests that bakuchiol is comparable to retinol in its ability to improve photoaging and repair skin, but it exhibits better tolerability and superior photostability. It promotes the production of collagen, especially types I and IV, which helps slow down skin aging.
Regulation of Retinoic Acid Receptors and Related Genes:
Bakuchiol can regulate retinoic acid receptors and downstream related genes such as CIBP1 and TIG1, exhibiting similar effects and mechanisms to Vitamin A (VA).
