Genipin
Detail
Chemical Name: Genipin
CAS No.:6902-77-8
Chemical Structure:C11H14O5
Molecular weight: 226.23
Function:
Excellent Natural Biocrosslinker: Genipin can be used to crosslink proteins,
collagens, gelatin, and chitosan to produce biomaterials, such as artificial
bones and wound dressings. Its toxicity is significantly lower than
glutaraldehyde and other commonly used chemical crosslinkers.
Treatment of Various Diseases: Genipin can be used to treat
liver diseases, reduce blood pressure, relieve constipation, etc. Research
results from an Israeli medical center indicate that genipin can also alleviate
symptoms of type II diabetes.
Anticholinergic Effect: Genipin exhibits an anticholinergic
inhibitory effect on gastric function and is the most potent mutagen-inhibiting
iridoid glycoside discovered to date.
Other Biological Activities: Genipin also possesses various
other biological activities, including anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory,
immunosuppressive, and anti-thrombotic properties. It may also have protective
effects on hippocampal neurons.
